Thriving Girls Section
Burton Joyce Football Club was formed in 1990. Initially consisting of just two teams playing wherever they could find a local pitch. The demand for more junior teams saw the club expand until a home ground became a necessity.
A new clubhouse was constructed in the 1990s and grass pitches prepared on Station Road to become the Poplars Sports Ground. This allowed further expansion of the club at the site and now is widely regarded as having some of the best pitches in the county.
After a long fund-raising effort an all-weather 3G pitch was opened in late 2015 and allowed teams to train during the season at the ground for the first time.
Over the past decade the number of teams has doubled. Now, in 2023, BJFC includes players in the Mini-Greens programme for ages 3 to 6, teams in the YEL from ages 7 to 14 and in the NYL from 15 to 18. The club also has a thriving girls section with six teams competing in the NGLFL.
The club is also proud to have a successful DS Active squad which participates in events around the country.
Presently over 450 players enjoy football at the club, supported by around 70 coaches and volunteers, playing upwards of 700 matches a season.
The club provides community football for all, a pathway for junior coaches to improve and evolve and for young people to further themselves through sport, refereeing courses and related endeavours such as the Duke of Edinburgh scheme
